what would you have done?

So Tuesday's are boot camp day. I went and had a great/hard workout. When I leave the Y on Tue I always sign up for Spin class the following morning. (Wed) I think there are only about 10 bikes and so I like to be sure I get one. Normally, the class is NOT full, but I sign up anyways. Well this morning I head out the door, and off to the Y, Drop off the 4 yr old at child watch and in and down stairs for Spin. I walk in and all bikes are taken but one... the broken one. WHAT THE HELL. The one day I don't get there early enough.... So I jokingly say, out loud, "OK, I signed up, who didn't" and then I laugh and walk out, up stairs to the dreadmill. I was planning on running after spin anyways, but I was looking forward to a beating on the bike as well. So annoyed and frustrated, I start the treadmill... Two ladies did come up stairs and offer me their bikes, but I was NOT about to take them. They told me they hadn't signed up and that I really should have the spot. I just couldn't get myself to be the Bitch who took over their bike. So I didn't get to spin today, and instead I ran 6 miles on the dreadmill. My chest was hurting and it kind of scared me, other wise I would have gone a little longer. Oh well....

So... what would you have done? Taken the bike? Gone to the administration? yelled? laughed it off? I really am over it... but I haven't blogged in 13 days and felt I needed to get something out there. I don't know how all you amazing bloggers come up with something to blog about day after day. My life is just way to boring.

I am awful at direct confrontation so I would have stuck with the treadmill like you did. Technically, you would have been perfectly right to take a bike. Hope you get a bike next time. :)

I would have made the problem known to the instructor and let them deal with it.
At my Y they actually rolled in another bike when that happened.
Sorry about your chest hurting at all. You were a good sport!

I think I would have laughed it off and continued on the dreadmill! I hate when things like that happen!

That is annoying. I would have done the same as you.

tough call. i mean then what is the point of the sign up sheet? sounds like a system failure, not your fault. no one should be put in that position. it is up to the instructor/admin to make sure who is signed up is who gets the bikes and then if there are spots left, the non-sign-up-ees can jump in, only after it is clear people are no-shows. you shouldn't have to get there super early, just on time.

Argh, that would annoy me! It was nice of them to offer their bikes, but I would have had a hard time accepting too.

But - what is the point of signing up if it doesn't guarantee a bike??

I wouldn't have taken the bike either -- maybe mentioned something to the instructor after class. I am not a person who likes confrontation!!!

I would have been annoyed but gotten over it. The management needs to look at how they handle reserving equipment.

I agree with all the comments. I hate confrontation (unless it is necessary). In this case, you are better off with how you handled it. I agree that their system is flawed.

I hate confrontation. I probably wouldn't have even said anything when I saw them all taken. I would've just walked out quietly. And I'm with you. I'm still a new blogger, but I also wonder how everyone else comes up with stuff to write each day.

Process fail, not people fail! Be bigger than the thing...sounds like you were!

it sounds like you did the right thing, although I would have been really annoyed. Especially if it was suppose to be an off day from running. The class should make it more clear that you need to sign up for a bike.

hmmm if I seriously needed or wanted the bike workout I would have said gosh I'm so sorry, but i signed up yesterday cause i really need this for my training or something like that. Sometimes getting what you want is just fine and there are nice ways to go about it

ha ha ha! I TOTALLY know what you mean about some of the great bloggers who ALWAYS have something interesting to say. I guess all we can do is post about our lives and if someone finds something that they can relate to or that they can take away then we are doing good. Or if nothing else....just to make ourselves better for venting.
To answer your question...I probably would have just laughed the whole bike thing off. Not sure that I could bring myself to say anything....but all the while I would be STEAMING inside.. you plan ahead, reserve a bike and get no bike?? ughhhh.....hope you worked that frustration off on that damned dreadmill. :)

I know! I don't know how people manage to get something out there every day or even every few days. Either I'm lazy or just not that into it....

Your too nice. I'm glad you said something. It was not cool for them to take the bike right out from under you which is what happened. You should have taken the bike when they offered. I wouldn have. It's not bitchy to do that. It was really cool of them to follow you out to offer up their bikes though.
