"PUT YOUR BIG GIRL PANTIES ON AND DEAL WITH IT"

Call me crazy, but I had never heard of a half Marathon being called a Mini Marathon until I moved here to Ky. I guess this is only the 4Th year or something like that, for the full to be part of this race. Between the two races, their are 12,000 people registered. I think I read somewhere that only 2000 of those are for the Full.
I have a few concerns about this race. Well, mostly just one. The race starts at 7:30. I know.... I thought it was kind of a late start as well. The problem is the weather. The low for Sat morning is suppose to be in the 60's and the high..... a scorching (or it will feel scorching while racing) 86 degrees...... I know, right. HOT HOT HOT. I haven't been training for a specific time lately, just training and running for fun, but I still hope and think I can run the race in under 4 hrs. So if the race starts at 7:30 and it takes me 4 hrs to finish, then we are looking at 11:30 to be crossing the finish line. I am pretty sure we will be in the 80's by then, if not, then super close.

I guess the other thing that worries me is the fact that I have been fighting a cold all week and with the heat and just getting over a cold, I am worried about dying at the end. I guess I am just going to have to "PUT MY BIG GIRL PANTIES ON AND DEAL WITH IT" (thanks Kimmy K) It will help knowing that my Twin sister will be there waiting for me at the finish with my cute little girls.

I have to say.... I ran 5 miles hard yesterday on the Treadmill at the Y. It was super cold and windy here and I thought the treadmill was a better idea with having a cold. Anyways, I pushed hard and I felt really good. I hope this is a sign of good things for Saturday's race.

I know!!! High of 85 here and I'll still be running at 12:00 or 12:30. So scary. I wasn't going to carry a fuel belt, but some of my running club people who ran Chicago in the heat two years ago changed my mind. The last water stations in 13-20 are sometimes 2.5 miles apart. For me that's 26 or 27 minutes without water and 80 degrees. And what if they run out because people take extra due to the heat???

What do you think? Fuel belt?

You are going to be fine, I'm sure. At least the Y run was probably in a 70-degree environment. I also ran indoors today. Maybe that helped us acclimate to the heat a little.

Mini marathon... that's funny!

Damn, that's hot... make sure you drink enough!

But yeah, put on those big girl panties and go rock it like you know you can!

Hmmmm, I don't like calling it a Mini Marathon cuz there's nothing "mini" about it!!

That's some major heat for a long run! Just make sure to stay well hydrated. Take some E-Tabs or S-Caps, that should help.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Woo Hoo! You are going to do great, just stay hydrated. I had a girlfriend in KY talking about a mini marathon and asked me if I knew what it was??? I had no clue?? It think it is a KY, IN thing!

Stay hydrated!! That is a late start for a race! Especially a 4 hour race. If it were me it would be like a 6 hour race :) There is nothing mini about that race!!

Good luck

I've run this before and really liked it.
You are right though. The 'mini marathon' has been around a lot longer then the marathon. And there are so many more people in the half then the full. In 2006 when I ran it, the mini's and full'ers ran about 12.5 miles together then the mini's split off. At that point in time it got REALLY quiet and Doug and I seemed to run by ourselves for quite a while.

If it's going to be that hot, don't kill yourself and make sure you get plenty of fluid while out on the course.

I love your post title today. I might steal it soon.

Of course it was a sign for good things to come on Saturday. The sooner you finish, the lower the temps. Hopefully the forecast will change for the better.

There's the mini Indy too! Yeah, I don't get it either. Country Music Marathon here in Nashville this weekend - hoooot. Eat lots of salt since the bod hasn't adjusted to the heat yet. Best of luck, big girl panties and all!

Mini Marathon? I don't like it.

You're doing the whole marathon, aren't you? Maybe they should call the full marathon a Mega Marathon. You'll do great! I hope the weather cooperates and it doesn't get too hot.

Make sure you stay hydrated and listen to your body. The weather has been crazy and there hasn't been much time to train in the warmer weather. You'll be fine, just listen to your body. Good luck!

That heat really does make a difference, yikes! That is really funny that the HM is called a miniMarathon. I've never seen it called that before.

Since I was 'bout 18, I've had this thing for the Kenutcky Derby. I have a fantasy of purchasing the PERFECT hat and going. Now, however, I believe you might have changed that "thing" for the derby to a "thing" for the marathon. I should train for that next year! I'd have to wear white gloves with giant ruby rings over the top though. And a crown. Gotta have a crown.
