this one is for Donna....

Donna wanted details on my 18 mile run... so here you go my dear.

There really isn't much to say. I am kind of boring. I run alone, no friends and no dog.
I left the house at 7:20, and the temp was already 54. I was so happy to be running in shorts and a short sleeve shirt, no hat and no gloves. I found that my sweat kept getting into my eyes, I have never really had that before. I wear contacts too, so I kept thinking I was going to rub my contacts right out of my eye. I decided to run out to the golf course and up and around the club house to add some miles, then I went out and back on my road. Of course it was super duper windy. I have decided that we moved to the windiest city in Kentucky. I think I am just going to have to get use to it. I felt really really good today. I decided to walk at mile 3 and then I walked every other mile after that for about 30 seconds. I am just sick of burning out at the end of my runs because of the wind. It helped so much. I had more energy at the end and My legs feel tons better then they did after 17 last week. I really think it helps in the recovery time. I took Roctane at mile 5, 10, and 15 and I drank lemon lime Gatorade and water through out the run.

Over all, I am super happy with today's run. I am certain I would have been able to run longer if I had wanted to. But, the hubby needed to head to work (CFO at the hospital, end of the month reports due) so I had to relieve him of his kiddie watching duties.

Today I decided that at least for today's run, I didn't mind running alone. Being a stay at home mom, I don't get a lot of alone time. So today I just soaked in the alone time with me, the ipod, the road and my roctane... it was a great run.

18.2 miles in 2:45 and some change.... Have a great weekend

Sometimes it's nice to be alone with your thoughts while running. Sounds like you had a great run!

Sometimes I do enjoy running with a group, but I enjoy the solitude of a long run. So peaceful and nobody to worry about except yourself.

Sounds like you ran a great 18-miler. Glad to hear you were feeling so good. Congrats!

I cherish the lonliness of the long run. It is my favorite part of running. If I could not do long run I am not sure what I would do I have 20 tomorrow

Thanks for the report! Having just done mine, it's neat to read what someone else experienced. I forgot to tell you, I tried Roctane at mile 4 (kind of yucky). I much preferred my Chocolate Outrage Gu at mile 14.

Your pace was great! We are having super-windiness in TN, too. I don't know what's up!

I certainly think there is something great about those long alone runs..but that's moi. Way to go on kicking but with the wind!

Wow! Great job on your run! That is a loooong way.

I so understand about running alone. I prefer it because it is my ME time. It's strange to say this, but it's relaxing. :D

Sounds like fun - kind of! Did you ever battle mental things like "I can't do this" and crap? I did. And I always had a buddy!

Nice work! I'm feeling some burn out and have to 18 this afternoon, so you walking idea has me thinking I might try it. I don't want to be sore ALL WEEK again. I feel you on the wind (I'm in Kansas) it can be brutal. You still had an excellent pace!

GReat job! Scheduling issues results in most of my runs being alone but sometimes I welcome the group! Lots of times - my partners is my Ipod. :)
