Today for my long run, I was hoping for 20-22 miles. I was a little anxious about my run. Some weekends, I just get nervous about running alone. Have I told y'all I train alone? I do. I don't mind it most runs, but occasionally, I think it would be nice to have someone who lives around me, who runs my same pace-ish. I love running, and I love training for marathons, so I don't give up.
I love running, and today was no different. I ran and I ran and I ran... alone. I was able to make it 23 miles... alone. hee hee. My feet, toes, legs and mind are tired. I choose to do my long runs on Saturdays, because church is at 9:30 Am on Sundays, and I don't want to run after. I feel terrible I choose running over yard work, family fun, and over nighters on Fridays. My hubby will get so much finished in the time I run 20 miles. He cleans the house, gets the kids ready, does some yard work, and will be showered before I am done running on a Saturday morning. I feel guilty. Do any of you feel this way? If so, what do you do, to make up for it?
P.S. The hubby never complains about my running so much. He loves it. I love him.
I want to give a shout out to my girl Stacey. If you don't read her blog, (click here) you really should. She has a goal of running 40 marathons by the time she turns 40... in 14 months. She has 25 marathons to run till then. She is so amazing. Today she ran marathon #16, in Salt Lake City.

I really struggle with this!! I feel so guilty for being gone for 1.5 to 2 hours for my long runs each Saturday. The entire time I am thinking about all the things I need to be doing at home or the fun stuff we could be doing instead. Drives me crazy!! Like I don't deserve a few hours to myself once a week.
I can see how as a mother (Im not a mother yet) that you would feel guitly. But it's not like you run 20 milers every weekend. Plus your with your kiddies all week long. Plus your a better mother and wife because you get out there and get that running time. Great job!
I used to feel guilty about all my runs but I have realized that I give many more hours every day to my family than I have ever given to myself. I want my family to understand that they are important and so am I. I want my kids to know that a mommy is also a person with their own needs and not just a caregiver to wait on them.
It is difficult to balance it all but with all the roles mommys hold it is important to not lose ourselves in just one.
I'm impressed you can do those long ones solo! I love running and run alone a fair amount, but boy do I love having my running partners along for the long ones! I found you on Stacey's blog, btw!
This training cycle I have CHERISHED my long runs. I think a lot has to do with that I have been running with a group and partners. The miles pass easily
sounds like a great hubby. i feel guilty as well, i do a triclass on sat. am's at 6.30am till about 8.30....but hubby doesn't have to do much cept wake up early with the girls. i do long runs on sunday but sometimes during the day, today i did it at 8am, so hubby did bfast for girls and they were ready when i got home, but hubby NEVER gets much accomplished while i am out, i feel guilty b/c he doesn't get to sleep late.
the other day during my long run Andy swept the hardwood, polished it, did 3loads of laundry, vaccumed, and cleaned the bathrooms. I felt bad, but he chose to do it. I cook every night, so it all works out.
great job on the run. i did 18 alone today and sometimes enjoy just being out there by myself.
I too wish I had a running friend somedays! There are days I'm good with just myself and other days I could use someone to get through the miles. Nice job on the 23!
My hubby nearly always comments on everything he does (or could have been doing) while I'm gone on my long runs. I feel guilty sometimes but he doesn't seem to mind too much :)
Thanks for the shout out Janice!
I feel a little guilty on those long Saturday runs too. My husband is so supportive and never complains, but I sometimes feel like I miss out on some things. But I love running and it is my alone time and I guess I am just selfish that way.
Have a great week!
It's good for the hubby to do that and its even better for you to take the time for you....which is running.
I don't train completely alone but have done my long runs alone and enjoy it.
I'm not doing many long runs lately but I know what you mean. THen I think how important running is to me and I'm ok with it taking time away from chores, etc.
