Running Sunglasses & my Forerunner 305....

I went to the eye doctor today with my 8 year old. Turns out she does need glasses. She struggled all last year with being able to read the board very clearly. I fianlly got her in and sure enough.... glasses. She is such a cutie. She picked out some, you guessed it... Hannah Montana glasses. She is so beautiful, even with these extra eyes. :0
However, today's visit opened my eyes to something I have never invested in.
Running Sunglasses!
The doctor informed me, she noticed I am beginning to show signs of sun damage to my eyes. WHAT THE H?!?!
I am only 32.... I wear sunglasses when I drive and play out with the kids, most of the time. I am thinking (and the doc agreed) All these years of running in the sun, is finally starting to catch up with me. So now, I need to find a good pair of running sunglasses. Sad thing is, this summer I noticed my first sun spots on my face as well. UGH...
anyways.... hook me up. What kind of sunglasses do you wear? where to buy? what to look for? help me out people.

On another note.
My Forerunner 305 is pooping out on me. I charged it the other night, ran 4 miles, then the next time I used it, it died on me. I plugged it back in, and now it wont turn on. Have any of you had something like this happen with your Forerunner? If so.... what are my options? Can't buy a new one right now. My trusty old friend is over 2 years old now. I love him and I am really missing him. One other thing about my watch. I have been picking it up on and off all day, just checking on it. Every time I do, Nellie the dog, will bark at me thinking I am going for a run. I can't trick her anymore. She can smell my running clothes the sec they come out of my drawer and she knows when I have been leaving her behind. I just don't want to take her everyday. I feel 2-3 times a week is enough for her. She believes otherwise.

Geez, that's scary. I don't wear sun glasses when I run ever. Just don't feel like it. I guess I better consider it.

I swear by running in sunglasses. Have similar sun damage on the whites o' me eyes. I run in the Maui Jim Kona Rose. Light, refreshing and rarely fogs. They're kinda pricey though... I got mine on e-bay and saved a hundred bucks.

Did you try rebooting the Garmin? Hold the down the mode button and the lap button for 10 seconds. Sad news though... I'm on my third watch. They just quit working after a couple of years (that happened to two of 'em - one of them was covered under warranty) and the third one died because of the rain at St George last year.

You can also try downloading new firmware at www.garmin.com but someone I know tried it and it completely toasted her watch.

The next watch I buy will have an extended warranty. Good Luck!

my 8 year old just got glasses this past year too....i just got myself some running prescription sunglass, just cheap ones at wal mart, but they do the trick and are semi-sporty....but, if i had the money, i would probably go for some oakleys, everybody seems to swear by them...sorry about the garmin, i have no clue there

I have to wear sunglasses anytime I am outside, even in the clouds. My eyes are way too sensitive. I wear some sporty Swiss Army ones currently, Oakley makes some great womens sporty shades, and a brand that my husband turned me on to is Native. The more expensive ones will makes repairs or even replace glasses. I am waiting to get my Maui Jim's back from fixing a broken lens, my 22 month old nephew just grabbed them off my face and slung them onto the pavement. They are pretty sturdy, it only got a chip in the lens but I wanted to send them in to keep them nice and in good shape!

I have the Garmin 405 and have had some issues with it. Unfortunately the Tech Support hasn't been the greatest or easiest to communicate with. Good luck!

By the way, I found your blog through Mel over at Tall Mom on the Run!

I started wearing sunglasses when I run about a year and a half ago. I was getting headaches on my long runs and couldn't figure out why, then I started wearing the sunglasses and they did the trick. Now, I weat them pretty much on all my runs.

I just left my sunglasses on top of my car yesterday, yep, guess I'm in the market as well. I may be looking at some Rudy Projects - lots of good deals.

Garmin - folks seem to have good luck in sending them back for refirb/repair.

I was also going to suggest re-setting/re-booting the Garmin. Hope that worked! Mine konked out on me for good this week. :(

I lose and break subglasses often, especially if I'm running in them, so I just go with cheapos from my local running store.

I'm having the same issue with my Garmin right now. I plan on calling them today or tomorrow.

Call them. They tend to be great with customer service. May even ask you to send yours in if they can't fix it over the phone and will send you a new one.

Don't scrimp on this you only have two eyes; Oakley, Rudy Project or Bolle, polarized lenses are best expect to spend $50-150

I had something similar happen to my Garmin 205 (basically the same thing as the 305 without the HR monitor). I tried in vain to talk to a human on their support line. The hold time was estimated to be 35 minutes! Here is a copy of the e-mail response I received: "Are you charging the unit for more than 3 hours? If the unit is left on the charger for more than 3 hours it runs the risk of locking the software. This software lock occurs to protect the unit from an overcharge which will damage the internal battery. If you need to leave the unit on the charger for an extended period of time and it will not power on, you will need to perform a soft reset. This is done by pressing and holding MODE and LAP/RESET for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds release both buttons and press POWER. The unit should power on normally."

I'm not sure about it not keeping a charge, but this may help you. I hope so.

As far as sunglasses, I purchased some last year from Roadrunner Sports. I loved them at first, especially the polarized lenses. The only issue I have is their durability. The lenses fall out and the nose piece is coming off. I don't recommend them for that reason. But the polarized lenses are a must!
